Medical gender confirmation therapy (GCT) includes
three main types of interventions: treatment with
hormones of the desired gender, surgical interventions
to change the appearance of the chest or other
secondary sex characteristics, and genital sex reassignment
surgery. Despite reported importance of
GCT,  access to qualified healthcare professionals
who know how to administer hormonal therapy
(HT) or perform appropriate surgical procedures remains a major problem in many countries, including
the United States.
